A’Broad’er look

Being one who grew up in the church, I am eternally grateful for the young men and women who took a massive interest in my salvation during my teen years. The young professionals and campus students showed me what a love like Jesus’ looked like. In John 13:34, Jesus commands his disciples to love one another as he has loved them, and continues to mention to them in verse 35 that everyone will know that they are his disciples by the love that they have for one another.

image4Feeling compelled and motivated by the love of God, I signed up to help out with the teen ministry here in Cape Town. After much prayer I found myself falling in love with the amazing group of teens in Cape Town. God then opened up an opportunity to serve the church and the teens on a full time basis. Even though I didn’t know what I was heading into, I thought of a scripture Isaiah 6:8 that says “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”. I then took up the One Year Challenge to work for our church.image2

In the pursuit of growth on how to best serve our group of teens, I attend a teen camp each year up in Jozi. This has been the best thing for myself and our teens. I was amazing to see how God availed an opportunity for me to travel to the United States of America to volunteer as a counselor and the Swamp camp In Union point Georgia and Camp Hope for Kids in Pennsylvania. It seemed crazy that I would even dream of such a thing. And even as I prayed about it, I struggled to see how it would be financially possible for me. But in John 11:40 Jesus says “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the Glory of God?”. I saw God in how he was able to make what seeded impossible to me happen. The generosity of his people and various opportunities made it possible for me to raise the money that I needed to travel.

image3It was a great time of growth and adventure. Being reminded of how big our international family is, and how we are all brought together by the love of God was amazing. 2 Timothy 4:2 says; “ Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage with great patience and careful instruction”. The bible calls us all to be preachers, but my encouragement is for us to preach every day, but only if necessary should we use words.
